I’ve been messing about with a lot of spice rubs lately, and here’s another one to add to the long list. It’s a spicy rub that’s designed primarily for grilling steaks; however, I have experimented with it on chicken breasts, and even pork chops. It’s spicy, but with a sweet heat that lingers on the lips like a lover’s kiss. Hence the name: Lover’s Caress. If you decide to use the bourbon, it will blend in with the coconut sugar, and create a perfect blend between sweet and heat. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients For rub essentials: lover’s caress spicy steak rub

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • 1 Tbsp
    hungarian paprika, smoked variety
  • 2 tsp
    chili powder, i prefer mexane chili powder
  • 1 tsp
    smoked sea salt
  • 1 tsp
    coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp
    ground cumin
  • 1 tsp
    chipotle chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    white pepper, freshly ground
  • 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • ADDITIONAL ITEMS
  • 1 oz
    bourbon, more on that later

How To Make rub essentials: lover’s caress spicy steak rub

    Gather your Ingredients (mise en place).
  • 3
    Thoroughly combine all the ingredients in a small mixing bowl.

    Store in a tightly sealed container away from heat and light.

    Chef’s Note: This rub should last for several months, if properly stored.

    COOKING SUGGESTION

    Pick up your favorite cut of steak (ribeye, sirloin, T-bone, etc.). Wet the steak down with a bit of bourbon. Chef’s Note: If you choose not to use the bourbon, you might want to add a pinch or two more coconut sugar. Sprinkle the steak rub on both sides of the steak. Tightly wrap in cling foil, and place in the fridge overnight.

    Chef’s Tip: If you can allow the steaks to marinate in the rub for a minimum of 8 hours, you won’t be disappointed.
