How To Make diy essentials: ranch seasoning mix
-
1PREP/PREPARE
-
2Most recipes for ranch dressing call for more salt; however, they are not taking into account that buttermilk powder contains sodium. So, after calculating the additional sodium in the powder, I reduced the salt from 1 to 1/4 teaspoon.
-
3Store in a tightly sealed container, away from heat and sunlight, and it will be good for 4 – 6 months (a bit longer, if you store it in the fridge). Assuming it lasts that long.
-
4As a point of reference, 2 tablespoons of this mix are equal to a single packet of store-bought seasoning.
-
5The Coleman dry mustard is one of my additions (along with the white pepper). I believe it gives the dressing more flavor depth, and the white pepper, gives it a bit of sweet heat.
-
6To make ranch dressing add a tablespoon of this mix to 1/3 cup of mayonnaise, and 1/3 cup of whole milk.
-
7Gather your ingredients (mise en place).
-
8Add all the ingredients together, and then store, as mentioned above.
-
9I like to give mine a spin in a miniprep fitted with an S-blade; however, that is really not necessary
-
10PLATE/PRESENT
-
11Use it anywhere the recipe calls for using store-bought ranch seasoning. Enjoy.
-
12Keep the faith, and keep cooking.
