my sweet and smoky hot dog sauce

My husband loves chili dogs but the spicyness of the chili dog sauce does not love him. So in our house I need to find other ways to make flavor other than adding a lot of heat. I perfected this recipe over a few tries. The kitchen bouquet and the bacon give this is smoky flavor.

Ingredients For my sweet and smoky hot dog sauce

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 1/2 lb
    ground pork
  • 1 lg
    red onion diced
  • 6 clove
    garlic minced
  • 1/2 stick
    butter
  • 1 tsp
    each cumin, chili powder, dry mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tbsp
    kitchen bouquet or 1 tbsp. liquid smoke
  • 1/2 c
    ketchup
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 lb
    bacon cooked a bit but not crispy the all ready cooked bacon works well for this recipe
  • 1-2 Tbsp
    tomato paste
  • water just to cover

How To Make my sweet and smoky hot dog sauce

    Place butter in large saucepan. Add the onions, and garlic and saute 1 minute. Add beef and pork and cook until browned.

    Mix all the seasonings together and pour over meat.Add the worcestershire sauce and kitchen boutique and stir. Add the ketchup and sugar. Mix well.

    Stir in bacon and add water just to cover. Bring to a boil. Reduce to simmer and simmer 30 minutes to thicken. Add 1 to 2 tbsp. of tomato paste in the last 10 minutes to make it thick.

    Serve spooned over hot dog and top with shredded cheese
