I got this recipe from a restaurant in Kansas City. It is sweet and smoky with a little bite. Everyone loves it when I use it over my brisket, ribs and chicken. I always get the highest compliments for this sauce and everyone wants the recipe. ENJOY!

Ingredients For k.c. bar-b-q sauce

  • 2 c
    ketchup
  • 2 c
    tomato sauce
  • 1 1/4 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 1/4 c
    red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 c
    unsulfured molasses
  • 4 tsp
    hickory-flavored liquid smoke
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    chili powder
  • 1 tsp
    paprika
  • 1/2 tsp
    celery seed
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    black pepper

How To Make k.c. bar-b-q sauce

    In a large saucepan over low heat, mix together the ketsup, tomato sauce, brown sugar, wine vinegar, molasses, liquid smoke and butter. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, celery seed, cinnamon, cayenne, salt and pepper.

    Turn heat to high and when mixture starts to bubble reduce heat to low, and simmer for 20 minutes stirring occasionaly. For thicker sauce, simmer longer. Sauce can also be thinned with a bit of water if necessary. When done brush sauce onto any kind of meat. ENJOY!
