This is a simple method used to prepare tomatoes or other vegetables for a variety of different recipes.

    Remove the core of the tomatoes and discard them.
  • 2
    Using a sharp knife, make an "x" at the bottom.
  • 3
    Emerge prepared tomatoes in boiling water and process for 40 seconds at the most.

    Remove tomatoes and plunge them in an ice water bath. Leave them in for 3 to 5 minutes.

    Using a paring knife, peel off their skins and discard them. At this point, they can be crushed if desired.

    Cut the tomatoes in half and remove the seeds; discard them. Chop or dice depending on the recipe.
