I am Italian - so i am picky about tomato sauce.....but it doesnt have to take all day to make a good sauce - this is great for weeknights!!

Ingredients For tastes like it cooked all day - tomato sauce

  • 1 1/8 can
    diced tomatoes
  • 2 lg
    cans tomato sauce (plain)
  • 1/2 c
    dried basil
  • 4
    beef bouillon cubes or 3 tsp beef base paste
  • 1/4 c
    garlic - minced
  • 1 c
    parmesan cheese - grated
  • 2 Tbsp
    oregano, dried
  • 1/4 c
    margarine (yes i said margarine)
  • 2 Tbsp
    olive oil, extra virgin

How To Make tastes like it cooked all day - tomato sauce

    In a large stock pot, saute garlic in olive oil for about 3 to 5 minutes until just cooked. Add sauce, tomatoes, basil, cheese, oregano, beef base (or bouillon cubes) and cook for about an hour on medium-low, stirring often.

    Remove from the heat and add margarine. (I know this sounds odd - (but it cuts down on the acidic nature of the tomatoes and gives it very smooth taste!)
