Tina Nieland - this recipe was given to me by one of my best friends, who I used to do canning with. This sauce is very good to add to chili, meatballs or meatloaf, to make pizza sauce or spaghetti sauce. I like it because it saves times when preparing a meal.

Ingredients For home canned chili sauce

  • 4 qt
    chopped tomatoes
  • 1 c
    green pepper
  • 1/4 tsp
    cayenne pepper (use less if you don't like it hot)
  • 3 Tbsp
    salt
  • 2 c
    onion, chopped
  • 1 c
    red (sweet) pepper
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 2 1/2 c
    vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp
    mustard seed
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 tsp
    allspice, ground

How To Make home canned chili sauce

  • 1
    Combine all the above ingredients and cook on medium heat stirring occasionally 1 to 1 1/2 hours till thickened.

    Add vinegar and the following spices in a cloth bag: mustard seed, cinnamon, allspice.

    Cook until thickens again and pour into hot sterilized pint jars and seal.
