When the Bush's were in office, they had a home in Kennebunkport Maine, which was near where my cousins lived. I was lucky enough to get a small pamphlet type cookbook from her with this recipe in it. Extremely yummy.

Ingredients For first lady barbara bush's barbecue sauce

  • 1/4 c
    cider vinegar
  • 2 1/4 c
    water
  • 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 1 stick
    butter , unsalted
  • 1/3 c
    mustard
  • 2 md
    onions, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp
    each....salt and pepper
  • 1/2 c
    worchestershire sauce
  • 2 1/2 c
    ketchup
  • 7 to 8 tsp
    lemon juice
  • dash
    cayenne pepper

    In a pott, combine first 7 ingredients. Bring to a boil, cook over low heat until onions are tender, about 20 minutes.

    Add remaining ingredients, stir and simmer slowly for forty five minutes.
