With all the great recipes that my Grandma Bush had using tomato soup I had to find an alternative to using canned soup. I have used this with several of her recipes with great success. My husband couldn't tell the difference. Now that is a passed test.

1 cup or 1 can condensed soup
Ingredients For diy cream of tomato soup

3 Tbspbutter, unsalted or olive oil, extra virgin

3 Tbspunbleached white flour

1/4 tspkosher salt

dashfreshly ground black pepper

dashgarlic powder with parsley

dashonion powder
-
dashfreshly grated nutmeg

1 1/4 ctomato juice, home-canned if available
How To Make diy cream of tomato soup

1Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in flour and seasonings. Cook over medium heat until it bubbles and the raw flour taste is gone.

2Add tomato juice, stirring with a wire whisk to prevent lumps. Cook until thick.
