This is a traditional Texas style barbecue sauce that is excellent for brushing on grilling meat or serving as a sauce You can control the spiciness by increasing or decreasing the chili powder (we like ours spicier)

Ingredients For barbecue sauce (sallye)

1/2 cbutter

1 mdonion

2 clovegarlic
-
3 Tbspdry mustard
-
4 Tbspdo it yourself chili powder (link in comments)

2 ctomato catsup
-
1/2 capple cider vinegar
-
2 Tbsp(heaping) brown sugar

1 Tbsphoney (optional)

2 Tbspworcestershire sauce
-
1 to 2 cwater
-
1 Tbsplemon juice
-
salt & pepper to taste

1 to 2 Tbspliquid smoke (optional)
How To Make barbecue sauce (sallye)

1Peel and quarter onion Peel garlic cloves Place in food processor and pulse until minced finely

2Melt butter in a heavy sauce pan over medium high heat Add onions and garlic Saute until onions and garlic are translucent (about 5 minutes) Stir frequently to avoid burning

3While onion/garlic mixture is cooking, combine all other ingredients in mixing bowl Whisk briskly until well blended

4Pour liquid over onions/garlic in saucepan and bring to a boil Reduce heat and simmer for 15-30 minutes until sauce is thickened Stir frequently to avoid sticking and/or burning

5Brush over grilled meat during and after cooking.
