We were married in 1996. I have been asking for his recipe the entire time we have been married. Until I told him my Dad wanted the recipe (he loves to grill, and always shares his recipes with us), it remained a secret! Now, I know what goes into his marinade, but not the amounts (because he never measures anything). Couldn't wait to add it to my recipes!

Ingredients For john's marinade

  • italian salad dressing
  • soy sauce
  • worcestershire sauce
  • juice from pepperocini peppers jar
  • juice from kosher garlic pickle spears jar
  • italian seasoning
  • salt and pepper
  • little bit of beer (he buys yuengling, but any would probably be okay)
  • little squirt yellow mustard
  • little minced garlic (like the small spoon from your silverware drawer, about 1/2 of the spoon)

How To Make john's marinade

    He mixes it all up, puts the steak into a ziplock, pours in the marinade, leaves in fridge a few hours. Take out an hour or two before you cook it to get the marinade with steak inside to room temperature.

    If I had to guess, you would be using tablespoons of all the liquids, say 2-3 depending on the amount of meat you are marinating. Salt and pepper, Italian seasoning, say 2 tsp each?
