Many years ago, someone in the family collected recipes from descendants of my great grandparents, William M. and Florence E. (Snodgrass) Whaley and had them compiled into a cookbook. I am posting those recipes here so that they will not be lost. This recipe was submitted by my mother's cousin Effie Moody.

1 lgcabbage head

2white onions

2 csugar

2/3 coil

1 cvinegar

1 Tbspmustard seed

1 Tbspcelery seed

1 Tbspsalt
How To Make make ahead slaw

1Shred cabbage and chop onions.

2Sprinkle with sugar; do not stir.

3Mix remainder of ingredients. Pour over cabbage mixture.

4Refrigerate for 3 to 4 hours. Keeps for 3 to 4 weeks.
