Since this was a 5 ingredient challenge, I found this recipe in "500 Fast and Fabulous Five Star Ingredients" cookbook. It was so quick and easy to put together and can look so pretty on the right serving platter.

Ingredients For basil cream tomatoes

  • 3/4 c
    mayonnaise
  • 1/3 c
    half-and-half
  • 3/4 tsp
    grated basil, also have some fresh basil rolled and cut into thin strips for garnish.
  • 4 lg
    tomatoes, sliced
  • 1/2 lg
    red onion, sliced into thin rings, more may be needed

How To Make basil cream tomatoes

  • 1
    In a cup with a lid, mix together mayonnaise, half-and-half and grated basil. Shake to mix well.
  • 2
    Cover and refrigerate until serving time.

    Just before serving, arrange the tomatoes and onion on a serving platter. Drizzle with the dressing (after shaking to mix well), and garnish with basil strips.
