This recipe is from my mother in law who went on to Heaven in 1984, she shared this with me and it is one of my husband favorite jello topping. If course I never make it like mom did, but that is OK, at least I try. Because we all know no one can do it like mom.

How To Make grandma cleveland's jello salad topper

  • 1
Mix flour, sugar and salt together well. Put egg yoke and one cup of fruit juice in separate bowl mix well and then add to flour mixture in a 1 qt cooking pan add the ½ cube of butter or margarine and cook over low heat (very important to keep stirring while mixture cooks). This mixture will become very thick and you do not want to scorch it.

Beat egg white until stiff and stir into cooked mixture.
  • 3
Before serving let cool and then, beat whipping cream until it holds shape while mixing add 1 tablespoon powder sugar, and then mix in with cooked mixture.

You then have a fruit salad topping for Jell-O fruit salad or just a regular fruit salad. Grandma had used this recipe since about the 1930’s. Excellent Foot note: as long as I know this recipe is family tested and was made by my husbands mom.
