mom's spaghetti sauce
This recipe was a staple growing up in a family of eight, six of which were male! To this day it is the most requested and desired meal when the family is all together. My mom has even gotten to the point where she freezes it for when the boys come home on holidays so they can take a small tub home. I don't believe there has ever been a time that this was made that mom wasn't always getting after us to stay out of the sauce before dinner! Note: We lost mom 9/30/18 after a long battle (4 years) with Pancreatic Cancer.
Blue Ribbon Recipe
What a fantastic homemade spaghetti sauce. It's full of Italian herbs and is slightly spicy. Filled with meat and chunks of Italian sausage, we loved how hearty this sauce was. While this simmers, the smell is amazing. If you are sensitive to spice, you can always double the regular sausage and omit the spicy sausage. The whole recipe can be adjusted to suit your preference. Too thick? Add a little water to thin the tomato sauce. This makes a huge pot of sauce. So, if you aren't serving a crowd, there will be plenty leftover to freeze.
