  Create a Neutralizing Bath Fill a dishpan halfway with warm tap water and dish soap. Add 1/4 cup of vinegar

  Put on Your Safety Glasses and Protective Gloves

  Measure the Distilled Water and Lye Caution: Be sure to conduct this step in a ventilated area. Measure 18 ounces of distilled water in a 32-ounce measuring cup. Measure 9 ounces of sodium hydroxide (lye) crystals into a small bowl or measuring cup using a digital scale. Cover your mouth with a very heavy rag or put on a respirator. Carefully, add the lye crystals to the distilled water. NEVER ADD WATER TO LYE. Carefully & slowly stir the water with a plastic spoon until all of the lye crystals have been dissolved. Set aside until the lye solution is clear. Put your spoon in the neutralizing bath. Once the fumes are gone, take off your respirator/put down your heavy cloth.

  Prepare the Oils Measure 10.5 ounces of coconut oil and melt using a stove top or microwave oven. Add to your Crock Pot. Measure 56 ounces of olive oil. Add to your Crock Pot.

  Mix Oils and Lye Water When your lye solution is clear, carefully add it to your oils in the Crock Pot. You may add FD&C dye or natural color additives to the soap at this time. Using a stick blender on the lowest setting, blend the oils and lye together. Remember to ALWAYS keep the stick blender below the surface of the soap mixture so it does not accidentally splash you. Blend the mixture until the consistency changes to a Iiquidy pudding. This is called trace and it will take between 3 and 5 minutes of blending to attain.

  Set Crock Pot Heat and Timer Once trace is reached, place the blade portion of your stick blender into the neutralizing bath. Put a lid on your Crock Pot and set it to the LOW setting. Set a timer for 55 minutes. You may now clean your utensils and dishes in the neutralizing bath. Remove your safety equipment.

  Your soap will begin a chemical process called saponification during the cooking period. You will notice that your soap goes through many changes as it cooks. The color will go from opaque yellow to a "Vaseline"¬like translucency. This means that it is going into the "gel phase," which is exactly as it should look. After 55 minutes, all of the soap should successfully complete the gel phase

  Remove from Heat and Stir Once the soap has finished cooking, turn off the Crock Pot and, using pot holders, lift the pot onto a heat-resistant surface. Carefully stir the soap for approximately 3 minutes to cool the temperature down.

  Optional: Add Fragrance At this time, you may add your chosen fragrance. For this recipe, I recommend 4 ounces of Fragrance Oil or 2 Ounces of Essential Oil. You may also want to add exfoliants at this time or dried herbs. Use your imagination and creativity! Mix your fragrance and/or additives with a spatula or plastic spoon until they are completely incorporated into the soap

  Mold Your Soap In a wax paper-lined mold (freezer paper works well, also), add your soap a bit at a time. I recommend tapping the mold onto a hard surface as you add the soap to avoid air bubbles from forming. For cupcakes spoon soap into muffin tins lined with cupcake papers, pesee dpwn so soap will take on the creases of the paper cups. In a disposable pastry bag with a star tip spoon in "frosting" pipe onto cupcake. Allow to dry overnight then remove paper. Let your soap sit undisturbed overnight. Soaking your Crock Pot will make it easier to clean
