Got this from a blog, not sure right now which one. This recipe can also be used in the new HE machines, you just have to double-grate your bar soap. This soap does NOT suds up, so you'll be fine. You can find ALL of the ingredients @ your local Walmart store; I know the Zote is also available @ Home Depot stores. I know this soap does the job!

How To Make diy homemade laundry detergent
-
1Start by grating Fels Naptha soap bar; use food processor or box grater. For HE washing machines, you should run it through the food processor a second time to get a really fine grind of the soap.
-
2In a 5-gallon, combine the grated soap with other ingredients and mix well. You can use your hands or a long-handled spoon or spatula.
-
3When thoroughly combined, store in a 5-gallon bucket which you have lined with a sturdy garbage bag; you can either tie the bag closed with a twistie-tie or cover with bucket lid if available.
-
4**Don't worry, the Fels Naptha will dissolve in your washer even if you only use cold water. NOTE: Another member said she uses the Fels Naptha Flakes instead of having to grate the soap; one package is equivalent to 4 bars soap, so you could divide the box amount by 4 and save the remaining part for another use.
