I am one quarter Scottish on my Father's side. His grandfather was a Frazier, sic Fraser. My late husband was one quarter Scottish on his mother's side. Her father was an Armstrong. The Scottish clan tartan is a way of identifying the various clans or surnames of Scotland. Some clans have several different tartans for different functions.

  • the english word tartan is derived from the french tiretain. this french word is probably derived from the verb tirer in reference to woven cloth (as opposed to knitted cloth). today tartan usually refers to coloured patterns.

How To Make our family's tartans

    This is my husband's Armstrong clan tartan. His mother had a necktie made for him in his tartan. After my husband's passing, the necktie was handed down to our son.
