1 onion, thinly sliced

2 celery ribs, chopped

8 cups of water (1.9 L)

1 1/2 teaspoons salt (7 ml)

2 bay leaves

1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns (2 ml)

2 tablespoons tomato paste (30 ml)

2 cups crushed tomatoes (500 ml)

4 carrots, chopped

1/4 to 1/2 of a green cabbage, thinly sliced

1 small bunch of kale, leaves thinly sliced (tough stems and middle rib removed)
