Ingredients For sloppy joes

1 lbground turkey or chicken
-
1 smonion, chopped
-
1/2 - 3/4 ccatsup - enough to coat the meat without being too runny

1 Tbspdijon or honey dijon mustard

2 Tbspbrown sugar, more or less to taste

1 Tbspworcestershire sauce
-
1 Tbspchili powder
-
1 Tbsppaprika
-
1 tspground cumin
-
1/2 tspgarlic powder

2 Tbspapple cider or rice vinegar
-
salt & pepper to taste

hamburger buns, whole wheat
-
sliced reduced-fat american cheese (optional)
How To Make sloppy joes

1Brown meat in skillet sprayed with non-stick spray over medium-high heat. Break up meat with spatula while cooking so you don't end up with huge chunks of meat. Add chopped onion when meat is about 1/2 way browned. Saute until onions are translucent. Drain excess fat if necessary.

2Add catsup, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce and vinegar, Stir to coat meat. Add salt and pepper to taste. TASTE to make sure it's not too sweet or too tart.

3Let simmer for a few minutes to combine flavors. Serve on buns with sliced cheese if desired.
