This is my mama's recipe. It has always been a "must-have" side at all of our BBQs! Goes very well alongside potato salad too. The sausage gives it such a great flavor. If you try this recipe, you'll never wanna go back to "plain" baked beans.

Browning sausage gives these baked beans a wonderful extra punch of flavor and adds heartiness to the dish. These baked beans are an easy way to spice up canned beans with minimal ingredients. With just the right amount of sweetness, these will be a great addition to your cookouts. Delicious for a potluck too.

Ingredients For southern sausage baked beans

  • 2 can
    Bush's Baked Beans...any flavor you like, I use southern style (28 oz each)
  • 1/2
    onion, chopped fine
  • 1
    small bell pepper, chopped fine
  • 1/2 c
    light brown sugar
  • 1/4 c
    ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp
    yellow mustard
  • 1 lb
    (roll) Jimmy Dean sausage

How To Make southern sausage baked beans

  • Sausage, onions, and bell pepper cooking in a skillet.

    Cook sausage, onions, and bell pepper together in a large skillet.
  • Beans, brown sugar, ketchup, and mustard in a bowl.

    Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine both cans of beans, brown sugar, ketchup, and mustard. Mix well.
  • Adding sausage mixture to the beans.

    Add drained sausage to beans.
  • Beans poured into a baking dish.

    Transfer all into a greased 9x13 casserole dish.
  • Baking beans in the oven.

    Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes.
