When the weather isn't good for grilling out, here's a different way to cook your brats. I served mine with left-over hashbrowns.

Ingredients For sausage, sauerkraut, and veggies

  • 8 oz
    bratwurst (about 2 links)
  • 1/2 c
    chopped onion
  • 1/2 c
    chopped red pepper (any color pepper is ok)
  • 1 md
    zucchini
  • 1/4 tsp
    Italian seasoning
  • 2 c
    sauerkraut
  • 6 oz
    beer, optional
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 - 1/2 c
    shredded cheese, optional

How To Make sausage, sauerkraut, and veggies

    Remove the casing from the brats. Add to a medium-hot cast iron pan and break the sausage up into pieces. Add onion and pepper and cook together with sausage until the meat is somewhat browned and the onion is transluscent.

    Add sliced zucchini and continue cooking the meat and veggies. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning.

    Stir in sauerkraut and add beer, if using. Simmer for about 15 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese, if using, before serving.
