I had 2 slabs in the freezer and was tired of making BBQ ribs and after much thought found a jar of sauerkraut in my cupboard and made this recipe and my family really liked the meal as I made baked potatoes to go with the ribs and my dinner was all done in the oven.

Ingredients For ribs and sauerkraut

    strips of wide spare ribs
  • 5 c
    sauerkraut, canned
  • 2
    apples ...peeled and rough chopped
  • 2 md
    cooking onions chopped
  • 1 Tbsp
    caraway seeds..optional
  • 4 Tbsp
    brown sugar

How To Make ribs and sauerkraut

    Preheat oven to 350F..cut ribs into 2-bone pieces. in skillet add 2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil and fry ribs on both sides for 5 to 8 minutes..remove from pan and set aside,

    Do not rinse the sauerkraut just squeeze out all the liquid...place into large roasting pan..chop onion and peeled apple.and mix it with the sauerkraut and caraway seeds..sprinkle brown sugar on top of kraut then place the ribs on top of kraut and bake for 1 hour..turn ribs over and bake for another 35 minutes.

    While ribs are baking add 4 baking potatoes into oven and bake til soft when lightly squeezed. One pot meal and easy clean up.
