The German name for this dish Kombes mit Eisbein und Kartoffelbrei and was provided to me by a good German friend. When I make this dish, and soon, I will come back and add photos.

Ingredients For pork knuckles & sauerkraut

  • 2
    pork knuckles
  • 3 c
    sauerkraut, rinsed and drained
  • 4 c
    beef stock
  • 1 c
    dark beer
  • 1
    medium onion, diced
  • 2 tsp
    juniper berries
  • 3
    bay leaves
  • 3 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper, as desired
  • mashed potatoes, for serving

How To Make pork knuckles & sauerkraut

    Place the pork knuckles in your slow cooker.

    Mix together remaining ingredients except the mashed potatoes and pour over the knuckles. Cover and cook on Low setting for 8 hours without removing the lid.

    Remove the knuckles from the slow cooker. Scoop out some sauerkraut and place on one side of each plate, place a pork knuckle on top of the kraut, then place a scoop of mashed potatoes on the other side of the plate. Serve.
