ham steaks with mustard sauce (sallye)
Trying to find creative ways to use up this large ham I got on sale. This was a good choice, I think. I served it with a mixture of sweet and golden Yukon potatoes mashed together, sautéed spinach, steamed sweet corn and beer bread muffins. Mmm, good!

Ingredients For ham steaks with mustard sauce (sallye)

4 sliceham steak

1 Tbspolive oil
- MUSTARD SAUCE

1 Tbspbutter
-
1 Tbspall purpose flour

1 chalf and half milk
-
1 pinchsea salt
-
1to 2 Tbspwhole grain mustard

1 pinchground black pepper
-
1 pinchchopped fresh cilantro

1 pinchchopped chives
How To Make ham steaks with mustard sauce (sallye)

1Place heavy skillet over medium high heat and add olive oil When oil is shimmering, add the ham steaks and cook about 15 minutes until lightly browned, turning once.

2While ham is cooking, make the sauce.

3Place heavy saucepan over medium heat and melt the butter. Add the flour, salt and pepper and stir continually with wooden spoon until a light roux is formed. Gradually add the milk, continuing to stir until liquid is smooth and creamy.

4Turn heat down to a simmer and continue cooking sauce until it thickens. Remove from heat and stir in the mustard until well blended.

5Place ham steaks on serving dish, ladle the mustard sauce equally over each slice. Garnish with cilantro and chives.

6Good complimentary sides dishes are roasted vegetables, green salad and hot bread.
