This was my first attempt at baking a ham. Almost 40 years old and I never baked one before! Ha!! My fiance is a ham lover and he prompted me to cook him one just recently. I wanted it to be a memorable occasion so I thought why not cook it in some ginger ale :-) Hope you like it. The ham has disappeared, so I know he liked it! :-D

The glaze on this ham is sweet, tangy, and delicious. Once cooked it has the perfect balance of flavors and is extremely tender. We saved the glaze from the pan and drizzled it over the slices on a platter. This will make a delicious holiday ham.

    ham
  • 1 c
    ginger ale
  • 3/4 c
    prepared mustard

How To Make ginger ale - honey mustard glazed ham

  • Oven set to preheat.
    1
    Preheat oven at 350 degrees.
  • Ham in a roasting pan.
    2
Place an 8 1/2 lb ham in a shallow roasting pan with one cup of ginger ale.
  • Pan covered in foil while it bakes.
    3
Cover loosely with foil and cook for 2 1/2 - 3 hours.
  • Mustard, honey, and brown sugar.
    4
Prepare glaze: 30 minutes before ham is done cooking, make your glaze in a separate bowl. Add 3/4 cup of prepared mustard (French's, Dijon... whatever your taste), 1/2 cup of honey, and a 1/2 cup of light brown sugar.
  • Partially cooked ham scored.
    5
Take ham out of the oven and score the top.
  • Glaze poured over the ham.
    6
    Smother with glaze.
  • Continuing to bake the ham.
    7
Put back in the oven for at least 10 minutes and add more glaze if desired. Or, what I did was spoon the ginger ale juices back over the glazed ham. Let cook for another 10 minutes and should be ready to serve.

As it shows in my picture, I made a side of garlic sour cream mashed potatoes and peas simmered in the ginger ale juice from the ham.
