I conjured this recipe up years ago in honor of Notre Dame football and the famous tailgate parties. You can do this on the grill or in the oven. Either way, these sandwiches are to die for! With football season coming, I definitely will have to dust off this recipe.

Ingredients For ellen's tailgater hot ham & cheese

2-3 lbsara lee virginia ham slices

1 lbswiss cheese slices

1 lbcheddar cheese, sliced

1 jarvlasic kosher dill stackers
-
dijon mustard
-
8pepperidge farm onion sandwich buns with poppy seeds

How To Make ellen's tailgater hot ham & cheese

1Tear 8 12-inch squares of aluminum foil and place a bun bottom in the center of each. Place about 4 ounces of ham on each bun.

2Place 2 ounces of Swiss and 2 ounces of cheddar cheese on top of ham.

3Lay two dill stackers on top of cheese.

4Apply generous amount of Dijon mustard to the cut side of bun tops and place bun top over sandwich, pressing down firmly.

5Bring sides of aluminum foil up and over, covering the entire sandwich and pinching to seal.

6Place the foil packs on a large cookie sheet and bake in a preheated 400-degree oven for 10 minutes. Serve immediately and enjoy! You may also place on a hot grill for 15 minutes or so if cooking outdoors.

7Serve with chips, potato salad, soup, whatever strikes your fancy. These are especially good on a crisp autumn day!
