When you just can't get to the smoker for good pork, this recipe is great. It is tasty and flavorful, and really easy. By using alcohol, you eliminate the need to brine the pork, saving loads of time

Ingredients For captain's slow trip pork

  • 4-6 lb
    pork shoulder or pork butt
  • 4 clove
    garlic, smashed
  • 1 bottle
    hard cider, i use woodchuck
  • 2 oz
    dark spiced rum
  • 3 c
    organic chicken broth
  • 2 tsp
    chile powder
  • 1 tsp
    ground cumin
  • 1
    salt and pepper
  • 3 Tbsp
    light brown sugar

How To Make captain's slow trip pork

    combine all ingredients, except the pork, in slow cooker and mix well

    place the pork in the cooker
  • 3
    set cooker on low and cook for 6-8 hours.

    when done, it should almost fall apart. Take the pork out of the cooker and shred it in a separate bowl. If there are any larger pieces of fat, you can get rid of them or mix them back in with the pork. put the pork back in the cooker to soak up the juices, serve warm. Enjoy!
