Blue Ribbon Recipe

This is a really flavorful pork chop dish that was quite a pleasant surprise! It elevates a basic pork chop. Braising the pork chops in a mixture of brown sugar, allspice, bourbon, and orange juice, creates a deliciously sweet sauce. Browning both sides of the pork chops helps to seal in the juices. Once braised, they were extremely tender.

Ingredients For bourbon braised pork chops

  • 1 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • 4
    pork chops, 1 inch thick
  • 1 Tbsp
    canola oil
  • 4
    orange slices
  • 2 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    corn starch
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground allspice
  • 1 c
    hot water
  • 1/4 c
    orange juice
  • 2 Tbsp
    bourbon
  • 1/4 c
    raisins

How To Make bourbon braised pork chops

  • Dredging pork chops in seasoned flour.

    Combine flour, salt, and pepper; dredge pork chops in flour mixture.
  • Browning pork chops in a skillet.

    Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat; brown chops on both sides.
  • An orange slice placed on top of each pork chop.

    Place an orange slice on top of each chop.
  • Water added to brown sugar, corn starch, and allspice in a saucepan.

    Combine brown sugar, corn starch, and allspice in a small saucepan. Gradually stir in water.
  • Cooking until the mixture thickens.

    Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and comes to a boil.
  • Orange juice, bourbon, and raisins added to sauce.

    Remove from heat; stir in orange juice, bourbon and raisins.
  • Sauce poured over the pork chops.

    Pour over pork chops.
  • Pork chops braising in the sauce.

    Cover and reduce heat; simmer for 1 hour.
