Different but awesome! My daughter gave me this recipe many years ago. I always bake my ham like this when it is requested on holiday's. DAY BEFORE PREP IS NEEDED!

Ingredients For baked ham

  • DAY 1 OF PREPARATION:
  • 2 l
    diet or regular ginger ale
  • 12 oz
    diet or regular maple syrup
  • 2
    oranges with peels, cut into quarters
  • 2
    apples with skins, cored & cut into quarters
  • 2 tsp
    file powder (spice)
  • whole ham
  • DAY 2 OF PREPARATION:
  • 1 to 2 c
    reserved liquid
  • 1/4 c
    sugar free or regular brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    regular mustard

How To Make baked ham

    DIRECTIONS FOR DAY 1....

    Put above ingredients in a large pot with ham. Simmer "uncovered" for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

    Keep turning ham & baste frequently. Do not cover!

    Remove ham from pot & refrigerate overnight. Reserve liquid in a sealed container & refrigerate also.

    DIRECTIONS FOR DAY 2....

    Combine above ingredients & pour over ham in a baking dish.

    Bake in a preheated oven at 325 degrees for 30 minutes to 1 hour, basting occasionally.

    Remove from oven; cover with foil & let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.
