Ingredients For a sausage pie

  • crust
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 c
    soft butter
  • 2 lg
    eggs
  • sausage & cheese filling
  • 1 c
    ricotta cheese
  • 8 oz
    mozzarella cheese, diced
  • 3 oz
    romano cheese, grated
  • 2 lg
    eggs, beaten
  • 2
    links of italian sausage, removed from casings
  • 1 lb
    bulk pork sausage
  • 2 oz
    italian salami, diced
  • 1 lg
    white onion, finely chopped
  • 1/3 tsp
    of each, dried oregano, dried basil
  • 1 clove
    garlic, minced or pressed
  • 1/4 c
    italian parsley, chopped
  • 1
    egg white, beaten
  • 1/4 c
    parmesan cheese, grated

How To Make a sausage pie

  • 1
    Combine the flour and baking powder in a mixing bowl. cut in the butter until well combined. Stir in the eggs. Mix into a dough. Set aside.

    Cook sausage in a skillet with the onions and garlic. Drain off fat. Set aside.

    Mix all the cheeses and the beaten eggs, stir in the sausage, add the salami, oregano basil and parsley.

    Roll out half the dough into a 12" circle. Place on a lightly oiled pie plate. Spread cheese filling on dough to within an inch from the edge.

    Roll out top crust. Fit over filling, sealing edges. Brush with egg white.

    Bake at 350^ for 30-35 minutes before serving.

    * a small piece of dough can be reserved for decorating the top crust. Cut into diamonds, circles, hearts or braids, or birds..and place on top crust with a bit of egg white on the underside to hold em in place while the pie bakes.
