Ingredients For shrimp pizza

  • BÉCHAMEL SAUCE (ADAPTED FOR THIS RECIPE)
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter
  • 3 Tbsp
    unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 c
    milk, room temperature
  • freshly ground black pepper, to taste (I always use mixed peppercorns)
  • 1 Tbsp
    fresh chopped dill
  • PIZZA
  • 2
    14-inch pizza doughs
  • 1 c
    red onions, diced
  • 1/2 c
    green peppers, diced
  • 1/2 c
    red peppers, diced
  • 3 c
    mozzarella cheese, grated and divided
  • lemon zest, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp
    hot or smoked paprika
  • 1 Tbsp
    finely chopped parsley, for garnish
  • SHRIMP MIXTURE
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1 lb
    large shrimp or prawns, peeled, deveined, patted dry and halved
  • 2 lg
    cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1 Tbsp
    freshly squeezed lemon juice

How To Make shrimp pizza

    BÉCHAMEL SAUCE...
    In a saucepan over medium heat, add butter. When melted, add flour and whisk constantly for 5 minutes.

    Whisk in milk; season with pepper and dill. Whisk constantly until the sauce thickens, about 10 minutes.

    Remove from the heat to allow to cool.

    PIZZA...
    Preheat oven to 500 degrees F.

    Evenly spread the béchamel sauce on the pizza doughs, leaving about 1 inch from the edge.

    Add red onions and peppers. Divide 1 cup of mozzarella cheese between the two pies.

    Transfer to the preheated oven and bake for 8 minutes. Meanwhile make the shrimp mixture…

    Remove pizza from the oven and evenly place shrimp on top; grate lemon zest over.

    Divide the remaining 2 cups of cheese between the pies and sprinkle on paprika.

    Transfer to the 500 degrees F preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

    Remove from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before garnishing with fresh chopped parsley.

    SHRIMP MIXTURE...
    In a skillet over medium heat, add butter and oil. When it starts sizzling, add shrimp, garlic, and lemon juice. Quickly sauté the ingredients for only 1 minute.

    Remove from the heat and transfer the mixture to a bowl; set aside.
