pizza long johns

This is an old recipe from my high school days. When these were served in the cafeteria it was always the busiest day. The aroma would loft through the school so you knew you had to get in line early. I have been making them ever since. They do freeze well but I very seldom had a chance to do so because they are cobbled up so quickly.

Ingredients For pizza long johns

  • 2 1/2 lb
    80/20 ground beef
  • 1 lb
    pork sausage
  • 1 1/2 c
    plain bread crumbs
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    garlic salt
  • 1 tsp
    celery salt
  • 1 tsp
    oregano
  • 2/3 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1 can
    15 oz. thick pizza sauce
  • 2 c
    shredded mozzarella
  • 24
    hotdog buns

How To Make pizza long johns

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    Mix beef,pork,bread crumbs,eggs and seasonings. Mix as you would a meatloaf.

    Press meat mixture in a 15x10" jelly roll pan. Bake for 25 minutes.

    Drain grease from pan. Spread pizza sauce over the top and top with shredded cheese.

    Bake another 10 minutes or until cheese is hot and melted.

    Let the pan cool slightly and cut into bun size sections. Approx. 24. Place a long john in a bun and enjoy.
