I took my spaghetti and meat sauce recipe and layered it in a casserole dish and baked it in the oven for something a little different. I love baked pasta dishes.

Ingredients For spaghetti casserole

  • 8 -12 oz pkg
    spaghetti, cooked per pkg directions & drained
  • 1 lg
    jar spaghetti sauce, or homemade
  • 1 tsp
    each seasoning -oregano, chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    basil, dried
  • 1 can
    diced tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 lb
    ground chuck
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    black pepper, coarse ground
  • 1 sm
    onion, sauteed, optional
  • 1 md
    green bell pepper, chopped, optional
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter, optional
  • 1-1 1/2 c
    mozzerella, parmesan and/or cheddar cheese

How To Make spaghetti casserole

    Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain. Set aside.

    Brown ground chuck. Drain. Add salt, pepper,oregano, chili powder and basil. Add tomatoes. OPTIONAL: Saute' onions and bell pepper in butter; Add to meat.

    Combine meat and sauce in pan.

    In casserole dish or 9x13 baking pan, pour just enough sauce to cover the bottom well. Add layer of cooked spaghetti. Top with more sauce and cover with foil.

    Bake at 350 degrees approximately 35 minutes. Remove from oven and top with cheese of your choice or combination. Bake an additional 5-10 minutes uncovered.
