This is an attempt to try and copy a recipe that was served at an Italian restaurant in Pensacola that has now closed down. It was family owned, and this was a different Italian recipe that I enjoyed and wanted to try to duplicate.

Ingredients For seafood lasagna

  • 6 c
    water
  • 2 lb
    medium size fresh shrimp, unpeeled
  • 12
    lasagna noodles, uncooked
  • 1 c
    onion, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • 8 oz
    cream cheese, softened
  • 1 1/2 c
    small curd cottage cheese
  • 1 lg
    egg, beaten
  • 2 tsp
    dried basil, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/8 tsp
    pepper
  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 c
    milk
  • 2/3 c
    dry white wine
  • 6 oz
    crabmeat, flaked and drained
  • 1/4 c
    parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/2 c
    american cheese, shredded
  • chopped fresh parsley, to garnish

How To Make seafood lasagna

    Bring the water to a boil. Add the shrimp, and cook 3 to 5 minutes. Drain well; rinse with cold water. Chill. Peel and devein the shrimp. Coarsely chop the shrimp and set aside.

    Cook the lasagna noodles in the same water according to the package directions; drain well, and set aside.

    Saute onion in 2 tablespoons Butter in a large skillet over medium heat until tender. Add the cream cheese; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the cheese melts. Stir in the cottage cheese and the next 4 ingredients; remove from the heat, and set aside.

    Melt 1/4 cup butter in a heavy saucepan over low heat; add flour, stirring until smooth. Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat; stir in the reserved shrimp, wine, and crabmeat.

    Layer half of the reserved noodles in a greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish. Spread half of the reserved cream cheese mixture over the noodles. Spread half of the shrimp mixture over the cream cheese mixture. Repeat the layers with the remaining noodles, cream cheese mixture, and shrimp mixture. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

    Bake, uncovered, at 350º for 45 minutes. Sprinkle with American cheese. Bake an additional 5 minutes or until the cheese melts. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
