  • 2 c
    fresh cornbread pieces
  • 1 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 2 tsp
    Creole seasoning, divided
  • 3 lb
    beef stew meat, cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces
  • 1 md
    purple onion, diced
  • 1 lg
    red bell pepper,chopped
  • 2 Tbsp
    steak seasoning
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp
    steak sauce mixed with brown sugar
  • 8 oz
    uncooked penne pasta
  • 3/4 c
    chili sauce
  • 1 Tbsp
    crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 c
    heavy cream
  • 2 can
    cheddar cheese soup
  • 8 oz
    cream cheese,softened
  • 1 md
    carrot, chopped
  • 1 c
    shredded mexican cheese blend
  • 3/4 c
    shredded parmesan cheese
  • 3/4 c
    shredded mozzarella cheese

How To Make messy shorthorn (beef and cheese casserole)

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

    Coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Add cornbread pieces and press it down with a spoon.

    Heat olive oil and creole seasoning in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add beef stew meat, cook, and saute for 8 minutes or until no longer pink.

    Stir in diced purple onion, chopped red bell pepper, steak seasoning, garlic powder and steak sauce/brown sugar. Remove from heat.

    Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook penne pasta in the boiling water, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes;drain.

    Transfer to a large bowl, add chili sauce, crushed red pepper flakes, and 1 teaspoon creole seasoning; mix well.

    In a medium bowl, combine heavy cream, soup, cream cheese, chopped carrot and remaining creole seasoning; whisk together for 2 minutes until blended.

    Add half of beef mixture into a prepared baking dish and layer with penne pasta mixture. Spread half of cheese sauce. Repeat the layers. Top with cheeses.

    Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes until the cheeses are melted.
