Ingredients For marinara sauce
-
1 lgonion, chopped
-
1 Tbspolive oil
-
2 Tbspbutter (not margarine)
-
1 Tbspgarlic, minced
-
6 oztomato paste
-
1 1/2 Tbspbasil, dried (or a large handful of fresh basil)
-
1 1/2 tspsalt
-
1/4 tspblack pepper
-
1 Tbspsugar
-
1/4 tspred pepper flakes
-
4 - 28 ozcanned whole tomatoes
How To Make marinara sauce
-
1In a large stock pot over medium heat, add butter and olive oil. Add chopped onion (I puree my sauce at the end so I don't worry about big chunks) cook and stir til translucent
-
2Add remaining ingredients (garlic, herbs and tomato) Stir together and add 1 of the 28oz cans of water to the sauce.
-
3With a stick blender, blend to your desired consistency. My daughter hates chunks so mine is always well pureed. If you don't have a stick blender, you can alternately blend your sauce in a blender - carefully....
-
4Bring to bubbly, slightly cover pot and simmer for at least 30 minutes. I actually simmer most of the day . When I make meatballs (recipe coming), I simmer them in the sauce all day.
