Ingredients For macaroni and cheese with zesty turkey

  • 16 oz
    dry elbow macaroni
  • 6 Tbsp
    margarine,divided
  • 1 c
    grated parmesan cheese
  • 1
    packet dry onion soup mix
  • 4 Tbsp
    minced garlic,divided
  • 7
    applewood bacon strips
  • 1 lg
    vidalia sweet onion,peeled and sliced
  • 3
    fresh turkey drumsticks,removed the bones
  • 4
    fresh turkey wings,removed the bones
  • 2 tsp
    dark brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    panko bread crumbs
  • 3/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 c
    milk
  • 1 Tbsp
    italian seasoning
  • 16 oz
    cream cheese,softened
  • 2 c
    shredded monterey jack cheese
  • 2 c
    shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese

How To Make macaroni and cheese with zesty turkey

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.Coat the bottom and sides of a 9x13 inch baking pan with cooking spray

    Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil,and macaroni and cook for 8 minutes.Drain and transfer to a large bowl with 2 tablespoons margarine and toss to coat.Add parmesan cheese,dry onion soup mix and 2 tablespoons minced garlic;mix well

    Place the bacon strips in a large,deep skillet and cook over medium-high heat,turning occasionally,until evenly browned,about 10 minutes.Drain the bacon strips on a paper towel-lined plate and chop into small pieces.

    Stir 2 tablespoons margarine,sweet onion and remaining minced garlic into the bacon drippings in the pan and cook and stir in 2 minutes.Add turkey pieces and mix well.Reduce the heat to medium-low,and add brown sugar.

    Cook,stirring occasionally,for 10 to 15 minutes until the turkey and onions are golden brown.Mix in cooked bacon and bread crumbs into turkey mixture,transfer into a greased baking pan.

    Return to skillet to the heat and melt remaining margarine over medium-low heat.Whisk the flour and stir until the mixture becomes paste-like and light golden brown,about 5 minutes.Gradually whisk the milk into the flour mixture and bring to a simmer over medium heat.Cook and stir until the mixture is smooth and thickened.Stir in italian seasoning,cream cheese and monterey jack cheese.Remove from heat and cool completely for 5 minutes.

    Pour the sauce over the macaroni mixture,stirring well.Transfer to a prepared baking pan;mix well.Sprinkle with shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese.
