I finally created a new macaroni and cheese recipe, filled with brown sugar chicken.

Ingredients For macaroni and cheese with brown sugar chicken

  • BROWN SUGAR CHICKEN
  • 2 Tbsp
    margarine
  • 5 Tbsp
    dark brown sugar, divided
  • 4
    boneless skinless chicken breast halves (4 oz each)
  • 2 Tbsp
    sea salt mixed with black pepper
  • MACARONI AND CHEESE
  • 1 lb
    dry elbow macaroni
  • 1 Tbsp
    margarine
  • 2 Tbsp
    all purpose flour
  • 1 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1 c
    heavy cream
  • 3/4
    milk
  • 3/4 c
    plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 c
    shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 c
    shredded monterey jack cheese
  • 3/4 c
    shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 c
    cubed processed American cheese
  • 3/4 c
    panko breadcrumbs

How To Make macaroni and cheese with brown sugar chicken

    To make the brown sugar chicken, melt the margarine in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in 1 tablespoon brown sugar and cook until slightly caramelized, about 2 minutes.

    Add the chicken breasts and season with sea salt mixture. Cook side by side for 15 minutes or until no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear.

    Sprinkle the remaining brown sugar over the chicken breasts and cook for 5 minutes until the brown sugar melts into the chicken breasts.

    Remove the chicken breasts from the skillet to a cutting board. Slice into 1/2-inch strips. Transfer to a large plate and set aside.

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Coat an 8x8-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

    Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain.

    Heat margarine in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and garlic; cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Stir in heavy cream, milk, and Greek yogurt; bring to a boil. Cook for 2 minutes or until thick ,stirring constantly with a whisk.

    Add shredded sharp cheddar, Monterey jack, Parmesan, and cubed American cheese; stir until cheeses melt. Remove from heat.

    Add cooked macaroni and sliced brown sugar chicken breast. Stir together until combined.

    Pour into an prepared baking dish. Sprinkle evenly with bread crumbs. Bake for 25 minutes. Cool completely for 10 minutes.
