When you're in a hurry make a few additions to your favorite jar sauce for a quick meal. Ground beef, canned tomatoes and a few spices are all you need. Note: May make meatballs instead of crumbling and browning beef. Cook meatballs then add to the sauce.

Ingredients For gail's easy spaghetti and meat sauce

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt (more to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp
    black pepper, coarse ground
  • 1 jar
    spaghetti sauce (ragu with meat) 1lb 7.9 oz (or larger)
  • 1 can
    diced tomatoes, petite
  • 1 tsp
    chili powder
  • 1 tsp
    oregano leaves
  • 1/4 tsp
    basil leaves
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper, coarse ground
  • 2 dash
    nutmeg, (optional)
  • 1 pkg
    spaghetti 8-12 oz
  • 1 Tbsp
    olive oil, extra virgin
  • 6 c
    boiling water, salted
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1/2 c
    cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 c
    parmesan cheese, grated (optional)
  • FOR MEATBALLS: SEASON GROUND BEEF WITH SALT & PEPPER AND FORM INTO 1 - 1 1/2 INCH BALLS. FRY IN SKILLET UNTIL DONE THEN SIMMER WITH SAUCE

How To Make gail's easy spaghetti and meat sauce

    In large heavy saucepan, brown ground chuck with salt and pepper. Drain. Add spaghetti sauce, tomatoes and spices. Simmer until hot and bubbly stirring occasionally. Turn heat down to low and keep hot until spaghetti is done. Stirring occasionally.

    Cook spaghetti with olive oil in boiling salted water. Boil for approximately 12 minutes until tender yet firm. Drain. Add 1 tablespoon butter. Stir until blended.

    Pour spaghetti onto large serving platter. Pour sauce over spaghetti. Top with shredded cheese. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese in addition, if desired. Serve hot with garlic bread or rolls and green beans or green salad.
