I grew up eating this delicious casserole. It truly is a comfort food for me. I have no idea who Betsy is, but this is what it's always been called. A wonderful, hearty meal!

Ingredients For betsy's casserole

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 2 Tbsp
    oil
  • 2
    onions
  • 1 clove
    garlic
  • 1 (28 oz) can
    crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (6 oz) can
    tomato paste
  • 3/4 - 1 c
    water
  • 1/8 tsp
    thyme, dried
  • 1/8 tsp
    marjoram
  • 1/2 tsp
    bay leaf
  • 1 tsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp
    tabasco
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 oz
    egg noodles

How To Make betsy's casserole

    Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish and set aside
  • 2
    In large skillet brown ground beef.
  • 3
    Chop onions and mince garlic. Add to ground beef.
  • 4
    Add all remaining ingredients except egg noodles. Bring to a boil.
  • 5
    In casserole dish put uncooked egg noodles in a layer. Cover noodles with ground beef mixture, making sure all noodles are covered so they'll cook and not burn.

    Bake in 350° once for 45 minutes.
