Ingredients For stuffed cabbage (golumpki)

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 lb
    ground pork
  • 1/2 c
    uncooked rice
  • 1
    onion chopped
  • 2 md
    heads of cabbage
  • 1
    egg
  • 8 oz
    tomato sauce
  • 32 oz
    tomatoes, canned whole
  • 1/2 c
    tomato juice
  • salt to pepper to taste

How To Make stuffed cabbage (golumpki)

    Cook rice according to package directions. Simmer cabbage in boiling water to soften cabbage leaves,pull off as they get soft and set aside. Chopped remaining cabbage and set aside. Saute onions in butter till soft. Simmer chopped cabbage in boiling water till partially tender. set aside.

    Mix meat, onions, rice, beaten eggs and seasoning to taste. Put a small amount of meat on each cabbage leave and roll up, fasten with a toothpick.

    SAUCE: Mix all tomato ingredients together and bring to a boil. When making the sauce make sure you have enough sauce to cover all the stuffed cabbages and chopped cabbage. You can always add more tomato sauce or juice.

    In a large roasting pan layer chopped cabbage some sauce then the cabbage rolls,then more sauce,the rest of the chopped cabbage and then the rest of the sauce.

    Cover the roasting pan and bake for 2 hours at 350 degree oven.
