I'd called my mother to ask how she made those onions you top a hotdog with like you get at the vendors. The recipe was so simple I was floored. Then I got an idea remembering when I was a kid, as a change of pace, mom would slice hotdogs lengthwise and cook them in a skillet. They'd curl up and we'd make sandwiches with them. I topped the onions cooking in the skillet with sliced hotdogs. It was good!

Ingredients For mom's hotdogs & onions

    onions, yellow, medium
  • chili sauce
  • 6
    hotdogs
  • 2 Tbsp
    canola oil

How To Make mom's hotdogs & onions

    measure canola oil into skillet
  • 2
    Slice or chop onion depending on your preference - add to skillet
  • 3
    add 2 tsp to 1 tbsp of chili sauce to skillet - cover and let simmer
  • 4
    slice hotdogs lengthwise - as onions begin to look tender add hotdogs to skillet cover and let simmer until hotdogs are curled and onions are completely cooked make as a sandwich or have as a main dish with vegetables
