This is a great recipe when you have a lot of people over. 1 pot... that's all and make clean up fast so you have more time to have fun. It can be made early and put to the side on low until you are ready to serve. I like to serve this with my cheddar cheese and garlic biscuits.

Made in one pot, these shrimp and grits are pure Southern comfort food and super easy to make. The creamy grits are full of fresh veggies that add a lot of flavor to the dish. There's just a touch of spice that's nice with the sweet shrimp. A versatile recipe that can be served for brunch or dinner. We added a cheddar garlic drop biscuit for a delicious meal.

Ingredients For low country grits and shrimp

1/2 stickbutter

1 mdrell bell pepper, chopped

1 mdgreen bell pepper, chopped

2 stalkgreen onions, chopped

1 mdyellow onions, chopped

1 clovegarlic, chopped

4 cwater
-
1 cuncooked quick-cooking grits
-
1 1/2 tspsalt or to taste

1 1/2 tspblack pepper or to taste

1 TbspOld Bay seasoning
-
1/4 cmilk
-
1 pinchcayenne pepper
-
1 lbmedium shrimp, peeled and deveined (thawed if frozen)

1 csharp chedder cheese
How To Make low country grits and shrimp

1In a large Dutch oven, add butter, peppers, onions, and garlic. Cook for 5 minutes on medium to high.

2Add water.

3Add grits.

4Add salt, pepper, and Old Bay.

5Bring to a boil. Turn the heat down and simmer for 10 - 15 minutes or until the grits are cooked.

6Once grits are cooked, add milk and a pinch of cayenne.

7Add shrimp and simmer for about 5 minutes or until the shrimp are cooked.

8Stir in the cheese.

9Remove from heat. Cover and let sit for about 10 minutes.
