A place at a mall that is closed now, use to sell these. My daughter & I would share one quickly before taking in a movie at the mall. I found that I could replicate the recipe. You can use regular hot dogs but for a not a sausage lover per se, I absolutely adore these with the smoked sausage. I am not an expert of different sausages so doubt I can answer you comfortably about exactly what type of sausage. I just know the treat it like a hotdog sausage type. Be sure FRESH mushrooms, canned just won't be the same. And remember, any veggies not used, pop into the freezer for spaghetti sauce!

Ingredients For deli dogs

  • THE SAUTE STUFF BUT YOU CAN FREEZE ANY NOT USED
  • butter or vegetable oil to saute the veggies
  • green bell pepper, seeded & chopped
  • onion, chopped
  • fresh mushrooms, chopped whatever amount suits you
  • THE MEAT
  • smoke sausage in casings, not breakfast sausage!
  • THE BREAD CHOICE
  • hot dog buns
  • THE CHEESE CHOICES
  • mozzarella cheese, grated
  • provolone cheese, grated
  • CONDIMENTS
  • mustard, my choice
  • your choices

How To Make deli dogs

    In Butter or Vegetable Oil, saute the Green Bell Pepper, Onion, & Mushrooms. Keep warm.

    Okay, you can steam the sausages or grill them on a grill, or pan fry them on your stove top, just get them done. These sausages are meant to be treated like a hotdog. My first time I made the mistake of using the wrong kind of sausage, & now hubby won't eat any, though the rest of us do now that I know better.

    TO PUT TOGETHER: Put the Cooked Sausage Dog into the Hot Dog Bun. Top with the Sauteed Veggies. Top now with the Cheese. At this point either carefully melt the cheese in microwave or toss into the oven and melt the cheese. Top with Condiment or Condiments or choice.
