Give your hot dogs a delicious twist with this recipe. The amazing flavor comes from the sauce! Top them with chopped white onions and yellow mustard... yummy!

Ingredients For coney island hot dog

  • 1 lb
    (500g) lean ground beef
  • 1/2 c
    white onions, finely chopped
  • 3 lg
    cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1 can
    (6 oz.) tomato paste
  • 1/2 c
    low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tsp
    brown sugar, such as demerara
  • 4-5 Tbsp
    prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 Tbsp
    dried onion flakes
  • 2 tsp
    chili powder
  • 1 tsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp
    celery seed
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp
    freshly ground black pepper (i always use mixed peppercorns), or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp
    garlic salt, or to taste

How To Make coney island hot dog

  • 1
    In a large skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef. Use a potato masher to break beef up into the smallest chunks possible. Halfway thru cooking, add onions and cook until begin to turn translucent. Stir garlic in and cook for an additional minute. Add remaining ingredients and stir well. Simmer uncovered for 15 minutes or until sauce thickens.

    To serve, place a cooked hot dog (either grilled or boiled) on top of a steamed or heated bun. Ladle with a big coop of chili, and finish with yellow mustard and chopped white onions.
