new orleans cheese meatloaf

This new meatloaf recipe I created is a New Orleans version of a Philly cheesesteak, but in a meatloaf. It's great with mashed potatoes or mac and cheese and green bean casserole, and even perfect in a sandwich.

Ingredients For new orleans cheese meatloaf

  • MEATLOAF
  • 1 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1
    red bell pepper, diced
  • 3
    fresh jalapenos, seeded and sliced
  • 1
    vidalia sweet onion, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tsp
    creole seasoning, divided
  • 2 lb
    ground beef
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1/2 c
    panko bread crumbs
  • 1 Tbsp
    steak sauce
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 8 oz
    extra sharp cheddar cheese, cubed
  • CREOLE CHEESE SAUCE
  • 1 Tbsp
    margarine
  • 1 Tbsp
    all purpose flour
  • 2 c
    whole milk
  • 2 tsp
    creole mustard
  • 1 c
    shredded American cheese
  • 1/2 c
    grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tsp
    Tabasco sauce

How To Make new orleans cheese meatloaf

    To make the meatloaf, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced red bell peppers, sliced jalapenos, and chopped vidalia onion. Saute for 5 minutes until tender. Season with 1 teaspoon creole seasoning. Remove from heat and set aside.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

    In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, eggs, bread crumbs, steak sauce, garlic powder, remaining creole seasoning, sauteed pepper mixture and cubed sharp cheddar cheese; mix together.

    Spoon into a loaf pan and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until no longer pink.

    For the creole cheese sauce, heat the margarine and flour in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk for 3 minutes. Add the milk, creole mustard, American and Parmesan cheeses, and hot pepper sauce, whisk again for 5 minutes until smooth and creamy.

    Place the meatloaf on a large platter. Drizzle with the cheese sauce. Cut in 1-inch wide slices.
