I was recently told that my triglycerides were high and I should change my eating habits. Bad news for a foodie like me, but I'm attempting to do what I have to do. Here's my first major change: Turkey instead of beef chili. Hope you enjoy!

How To Make not for the meek spicy turkey chili

  • 1
Chop bell peppers, onions, Serrano peppers. Slice mushrooms if you purchased caps.
  • 2
Add olive oil to dutch oven or skillet. Heat oil and add veggies. I add my peppers as well but some may want to add later if not use to working with peppers.
  • 3
Once veggies are soft about 5 mins, add ground turkey and turkey Italian sausage. I buy the links and push the meat from both ends of the casing. Chop with a spatula to break up the meat. Brown until no longer pink
  • 4
The mushrooms will create liquid so drain entire pot once meat is brown. Return to pot.
  • 5
Add 1 chili seasoning packet. Stir. Add tomato sauce and 1 1/2 can water. Stir. Add one can of beans and stewed tomatoes. Stir. Add last pack of chili seasoning and chilies if not already. Stir. Add ketchup. Stir.
  • 6
Heat to boiling. Stir then immediately lower heat to medium and let simmer for about 45 minutes.
  • 7
Top with shredded cheese and sour cream. I also serve my chili with tortillas.
