If you have leftover pork roast, you MUST try this sandwich! It is sooooo good! You will not be disappointed! Your guests will be delighted if you serve a tray of these at your Super Bowl party or other casual gathering.

Ingredients For cubano sandwich (kentucky style)

  • 2 slice
    hearty white bread (i use arnold's italian)
  • prepared yellow mustard
  • 2 slice
    swiss cheese, sandwich size
  • 2 slice
    thin sliced ham
  • dill pickles slices (i use claussen's)
  • 2 slice
    cooked pork loin roast (approx. 3/18" thick)
  • 1 pinch
    sea salt (to taste)
  • 1 pinch
    fresh ground black pepper (generous pinch)
  • 1-1 1/2 Tbsp
    butter, softened

How To Make cubano sandwich (kentucky style)

    (Note: I use a George Foreman grill, but you may use a grill pan or skillet.)

    Preheat grill or pan on medium to medium-high setting.

    Spread or drizzle mustard on 1 slice bread.
  • 4
    Layer on top, 1 slice swiss cheese, 2 slices ham, dill pickle slices and the pork.

    Sprinkle pork with salt and pepper.

    Place remaining slice of swiss cheese and slice of bread on top.

    Evenly spread top with 1/2 the butter.

    Place buttered side down on grill or pan.

    Butter top of bread, close lid and firmly press down.

    Flip and rotate sandwich 1/2 turn after 1 1/2 to 2 minutes; grill an additional 1 1/2 to minutes, until golden brown and cheese is melted (watch carefully so as not to burn.)

    Remove from grill or pan; let cool slightly before serving.
