sweet and sour spareribs

My mom worked in a Chinese Restaurant when I was a little girl. This recipe was given to her by the chef. It's a family favorite and loved by many.

Ingredients For sweet and sour spareribs

  • 2/3 c
    water
  • 1/2 c
    vinegar
  • 1/4 c
    ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • few
    drops hot pepper sauce
  • 1/4 tsp
    paprika
  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 2
    onions, chopped
  • 2 clove
    garlic cut in halves
  • 5 lb
    spareribs cut 21/2 x 1 inches
  • 6 Tbsp
    brown sugar

How To Make sweet and sour spareribs

  • 1
    Combine water, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce, paprika and brown sugar. Mix well.

    Melt butter in stock pot over medium-heat. Add garlic and onions. Saute until onions are tender. Add brown sugar mixture. Bring to boil then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

    Place ribs in shallow baking dish, cover with sauce. Bake uncovered at 400 degrees for 75 minutes, basting occasionally.
